This project was the first PC-3 facility with an animal holding facility and involved the construction of Biosafety Level 3 and 4 facilities for studies of high virulence influenza (particularly isolated from birds and pigs arising in China) and high risk diseases (including SARS) which included both laboratories and animal facilities (now commissioned as the University of Hong Kong's Research Centre for Emerging Infectious Diseases (HKURCEID).

   - Extensive re-engineering of the whole E&M system catered to the stringent requirements of the Australian Standard. The laboratory is the first State Key

     Laboratory outside Mainland China approved by the China Ministry Science and Technology

   - Tysan worked closely with an independent specialist in biocontainment and with good co-operation and communication between architects, engineers and users.
